GTA 5 Actor Steven Ogg Goes Full Trevor, Makes Kid Cry

That's so Trevor

GTA 5’s Trevor might be the type of guy you wouldn’t want to share a taxi with, but his actor Steven Ogg has been anything but that.

Ogg had acted in various films and television shows prior to his casting as Trevor Philips in GTA 5, but it was his role in the Rockstar Games title that elevated him to stardom.

He later made some smaller appearances in Grand Theft Auto Online, but it’s still up in the air whether the character will make a return in GTA 6 next year.

While Trevor might be the “crazy and unpredictable guy”, as he puts it, Ogg has always been one to give the fans what they want.

This was the case during an appearance by Ogg at a recent event, presumably RetroWorld Expo, in which he appeared last week.

A video is now going viral online showing Ogg’s interaction with a young fan. The child is seen pointing at Ogg and shouts “What”, to which Ogg points back and returns the quip.

It appears that might have been a bit much for the young fan, as the kid begins to cry. This immediately causes Ogg to break out into laughter on the floor.

Of course, Steven Ogg isn’t actually Trevor, so the actor actually drops character once he realises how upset the kid is and even offers to give him a hug.

It’s clear from this interaction that Ogg was playing up the Trevor persona. In the past, Ogg has spoken about his desire to not be typecast in roles like Trevor, and instead explore characters that aren’t “the crazy guy and the unpredictable guy”.

However, a lot of fans still regard him as Trevor. I mean, despite GTA 5 being a game rated 18+, the series has a lot of underage fans who will only know him for that one role.

Typecasting can be frustrating for a lot of actors, particularly character actors, who want to explore a large range of roles but are constantly stuck playing one type of character for their entire career.

It’s the kind of thing that affected Alec Guinness and Leonard Nimoy, who were known for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars and Spock in Star Trek respectively, and Ogg has been accused of feeling the same way about Trevor in the past.

However, it seems from this interaction that Ogg still enjoys playing up the Trevor persona. If you see him at a convention, be sure to prepare to get yelled at.
