God of War Ragnarök was undeniably one of last year’s very best games but it did draw Kratos’ norse saga to a close which begs the question: Where is the franchise heading next?
Well, we may now have an idea as one God of War Ragnarök actor has offered up a juicy tease. Santa Monica Studio’s title actually topped our personal GOTY list here at GAMINGbible, even if it did lose out on the accolade at The Game Awards. God of War Ragnarök took home the most awards that night, including best action/adventure game, best narrative, and best actor for Christopher Judge as Kratos. In recent weeks, it’s become the most BAFTA-nominated game in history. It’s somewhat expected that we’d hear from either Kratos or Atreus again, but I didn’t think we’d be bumping into Tyr once more though.
Who’s looking forward to PS5-exclusive Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores? Take a look at the trailer below ahead of the game’s 19 April release date.
As reported by GamesRadar, Tyr actor Ben Prendergast has teased that we haven’t seen the last of the character. During an appearance at PAX East 2023, he said, “All I’ll say is this, it isn’t the last you’ve seen of Tyr,” which admittedly doesn’t give us much to go on, but it’s a clear indication that something is cooking up behind the scenes at Santa Monica Studio. He added that he “knows a little, but doesn’t know much,” regarding the future of the franchise.
Advert
Prendergast further added that he’d signed an NDA so he couldn’t say anything more. Oh boy, so something is coming. We don’t know though if it’ll be a new saga, a spin-off, or even DLC. I think I can speak on behalf of all God of War fans when I say we’ll accept anything.
Tyr is an interesting character - don’t read on if you haven’t completed God of War Ragnarök. Spoilers ahead. The character you believe to be Tyr for most of the game is actually Odin in disguise. After the final mission though, you can embark on the post-game side quest called ‘The Broken Prison’ where you’ll be able to locate the real Tyr locked away in Niflheim. Tyr says to Kratos, “Kratos, I know you from somewhere. I’m sure it will come back to me.” Kratos responds, “Until then.”
I’m seeing this in a new light now. Could a tease of a post-game DLC have been hiding under our noses all this time? Freya invites Tyr to find Kratos and herself in the realm between realms when Tyr is ready. Hm, suddenly this side quest feels much more important.
