The wait is finally over. Square Enix have announced that Kingdom Hearts IV is on the way.
Centred around main character Sora, the joint crossover between Square Enix and Disney debuted in 2002 and sees Sora encounter various Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix characters during his bid to defeat the evil Xehanort. With 13 games released in the series so far, the action RPG is a huge success shipping over 35 million copies, and fans have been clamouring for news of Sora's next adventure.
Check out the brand new Kingdom Hearts IV trailer below!
To celebrate Kingdom Hearts' 20th anniversary, Square Enix has officially announced Kingdom Hearts IV and the accompanying trailer offers a glimpse into what Sora can expect to face in the mysterious metropolis he awoke in during the secret ending of the previous game.
The trailer reads "The heart resides within the soul, which in turn is guided by fate to its rightful place," which doesn't give much away. Square Enix provided slightly more context to the trailer though, which also featured Disney favourites Donald Duck and Goofy.
"Sora makes a triumphant return with an updated look at the beginning of an epic new storyline titled the 'Lost Master Arc'. Beginning with Sora facing off in a boss battle against a giant enemy, players are introduced to the Quadratum, a large expansive city set in a gorgeous realistic world unlike anything ever seen before in the Kingdom Hearts series," the developers teased.
"Fans will be excited to see the return of Sora's well-known companions, in addition to the first appearance of Strelitzia, a mysterious new character who appears before Sora in this strange new setting."
Square Enix are holding back on a release date as well as which platforms Kingdom Hearts IV will be released on but regardless, our interest is piqued. Square Enix also announced the Kingdom Hearts Missing Link mobile game which is due to go into closed beta testing later this year. All we say is, bring it on.
