Far Cry 3 has been lovingly remade using Unreal Engine 5, making the Ubisoft open-world, and its villain Vaas, more menacing than ever.
Fans have done some pretty impressive things with Unreal Engine 5, whether it be entirely new projects such as Anime Tokyo, or stunning remakes of top-tier games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or Grand Theft Auto IV.
Now, the beloved open-world FPS Far Cry 3 has received the same updated visuals, with the results looking incredible. Boasting crystal clear waters, vibrant greenery, and gorgeous blue sky, it’s safe to say the tropical Rook Islands have never looked better.

TeaserPlay shared a concept trailer for the remake on YouTube, taking viewers across the shimmering golden sand beaches, sprawling jungle, and some of the shacks located throughout the island. It’s not the first Far Cry they’ve remade either, as they recently gave the OG Far Cry a fresh coat of paint too, which looked equally amazing.
The trailer also teased an updated look of one of the main antagonists, the charismatic and unhinged Vaas. The villain is a fan-favourite for his insane and unpredictable mannerisms, so to see a hyper-realistic version of him is both exciting and terrifying at the same time.
Released in 2012, Far Cry 3 put players in the sand-filled shoes of Jason Brody, a party-animal who takes a trip with his brother and friends to what they believe to be a tropical paradise, before getting kidnapped by Vaas’ group. Thrust into a world of death and insanity, the player must find their friends, fight pirates, survive hostile wildlife and find a way to escape the nightmare.

It’s often regarded as one of, if not the best game in the series, and is still fondly remembered by fans today, who hail it as a “masterpiece”. It even got a remaster of sorts in 2018 with Far Cry 3: Classic Edition, which brought the title to modern consoles.
To see such a beloved title beautifully remade in Unreal Engine 5 is truly breathtaking, and it’s also great to see the iconic gaming villain Vaas return in all his glory. Luckily, we might be seeing more of Vaas in future Far Cry titles, as he returned as a playable character in Far Cry 6’s DLC, which featured a secret ending revealing he’d survived the events of the third game. This has led to a lot of speculation that he’ll be the protagonist/antagonist of Far Cry 7.
