You’ve likely by now heard the news that Fallout 5 has been “fully greenlit”.
I should stress that this development hasn’t come from Bethesda itself, but instead from Windows Central’s Jez Corden who, as much as I have to urge you to have a pinch of salt handy, has a pretty decent track record when it comes to Xbox intel.
For years, fans have been yearning for an update with regards to Fallout 5 so this news was initially received with open arms.
It finally appears though that many fans are beginning to catch on to the fact that this update is actually a pretty dire one - and if you’re confused by that statement, I shall explain.

It’s been clear for quite some time now that Bethesda is a studio that dedicates most of its resources to one key project.
For example, it’s pretty obvious that development didn’t pick up on The Elder Scrolls VI until after Starfield had released.
Of course, it’s not solely focused on just one thing; while the vast majority of Bethesda is now working on the next Elder Scrolls game, a smaller team will still be delivering Starfield post-launch support with a new DLC also rumoured to be in the works.
As such, it’s been assumed for several years now that Fallout 5 is low priority at the studio in terms of where resources are directed, but the vast majority of us imagined that the game was at least being supported by a small skeleton crew.

It was expected that a handful of key developers would’ve been supporting the title, whether it be in its conceptual phase or pre-production, so as to accelerate its development when it should enter full production post The Elder Scrolls VI’s release.
Well, my friends, if Fallout 5 has only just been “fully greenlit”, it insinuates that it’s only now that work will begin - and even then, as I said, it’ll be slow and low priority.
So all of that quiet background work we suspected might’ve been taking place the past several years likely didn’t happen.
Do you know what that means?

Fallout 5’s release date is probably even further away than we thought - and fans are just catching on.
“My great grandson will be so excited by the time this releases,” wrote Reddit user Xspud_316.
“We’ll have a real fallout before Fallout 5 comes out,” read one bleak comment from Eliogarcia95.
“Should’ve been close to release, not f**king greenlit just now,” said a frustrated Sufficient-Trade-349.

I wish I could say it’ll be worth the wait, but Bethesda has yielded mixed results in recent years.
