Fallout 5 release window is leaving fans increasingly vexed

Bethesda is taking its time

When we’re excited about a game there’s nothing we want more than for it to be out now. Or at least very soon.

For fans of Fallout, that wait seems eternal as it has been nine years since the release of Fallout 4, and some fans are getting frustrated the wait is so long.

We've got The Elder Scrolls 6 up next from Bethesda which was announced years ago

One fan took to Reddit to express their ire at having to wait so long for Fallout 5.

“There hasn’t been a mainline Fallout game in what has almost been 9 years, and there won’t be one for at least another 5 years. Why is this acceptable from a studio that has made as much money as Bethesda?” said the original poster, Rednaxela623.

I mean, I can answer that for them. Bethesda doesn’t owe you any games in any timeframe that suits you, but let’s see what the replies say.

One of the top comments simply states, “New Bethesda fan?” It’s a long-standing tradition that Bethesda takes its time with each of its massive games.

It’s also pointed out that “Skyrim is 13 this year.”

This wait is fully explained by Rizenstrom who says, “Bethesda focuses on one main project at a time. After FO4 was Starfield, then it's Elder Scrolls 6, then Fallout (probably, not confirmed). So be prepared to wait until like 2033.”

Game development is a long process and it’s getting longer with every jump in technology.

Plus, it takes years to build a vast RPG from scratch, especially when you’re a company known for massive games that players will revisit for decades.

I’ll leave the final say to Ranos131, who says, “It’s acceptable because Bethesda, and by extension Microsoft, owns it and they can do whatever they want with it. Just because some gamers throw a tantrum because they can’t hear their cookie now doesn’t mean Bethesda is going to magically make it happen.”

We’re going to be waiting many more years, so it’s time to get comfy and play Fallout 4 for the ninth time.
