If you’ve been playing Fallout 4 on and off over the last few years, it could be that you’ve been hacking terminals all wrong.

Shocking, we know.

You’re not alone if hacking doesn’t come easily to you – plenty of other Fallout 4 players have the same issue.

To avoid being further vexed by this Bethesda mini game, there’s an easy way to ensure you never fail an attempt again.

When IronMonkey18 asked the Fallout 4 subreddit if there was a trick to hacking terminals, little did they realise they were about to be hit with a wall of advice.

To ensure you get to the key pointers with speed, we’re going to cherry pick the best suggestions that guarantee success.

Firstly, you need to pick a word to see what it’s likeness score is.

Say you pick a word and it has a two matches, you should look for words with the same letters in the same place.

Here’s an example from ElliottX19, “TOADY and TODAY would only have three letters in common.”

What is more, never use your last attempt.

If you get down to your fourth terminal hacking attempt and are still clueless, back out and restart.

Doing so means you begin with four attempts again.

There’s also a way to reset your number of tries, you simply look for ‘[]’ and select that, according to one fan.

Sometimes you may still fail, however, by utilising these tips you’re more likely to succeed nine times out of 10.

Before we go, we’ll leave you with some extra advice: the hacking perk doesn’t improve your chances. Instead, more challenging terminals to hack become available.

If you want to lessen the strain terminals cause, increase your intelligence. Doing so decreases the number of words present, therefore increasing your chances of finding the right password quickly.
