After waiting what seems to be millennia, the free Fallout 4 new-gen update has arrived for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and it’s glorious, well, mostly.
Thanks to the release of Amazon Studios’ live-action Fallout series, the popularity of Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG has reached a fever pitch with more players visiting the wastelands than they have in years and now the Fallout show has been renewed for a second season.

Even before we were treated to the Amazon Studios production, the Fallout series has always been one of the most popular in the video game industry thanks to its immersive storytelling, interesting characters and missions, as well as huge open worlds full of secrets waiting to be discovered. The popularity of just about any Bethesda game is often the talk of the town even with its infamous bugs and glitches.

So despite the free Fallout 4 new-gen update which brings improved resolution and framerates, it’s still seemingly plagued with Bethesda bugs and we don't know whether we’re going to laugh or cry. “The new Fallout 4 PS5 version is gorgeous,” said sarcastic Reddit user CSSJAZZ showing a clip of textures not loading up, before a Dogmeat falls through the floor.
As you can imagine, much of the Reddit thread shared the same level of sarcasm with comments such as, “Bethesda never changes,” and, “Dogmeat phasing through the floor showcases 16x the detail,” referring back to when Todd Howard revealed Fallout 76 to the world at E3 2018.
I was playing Fallout 4 on my Xbox Series X last night and the visual and performance upgrade was clear for me to see. However, I still encountered a few graphical glitches but thankfully nothing that broke my immersion too much.
