Bethesda Softworks might not have released anything particularly brilliant in the last few years (sorry Fallout 76), but we all know the studio is more than capable of greatness.
One only has to look back at the genius of games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim to know that the in-development Starfield has every chance of being the next big thing.
But while we wait for Starfield to drop early next year, we have a chance to revisit some of Bethesda’s finest efforts. And it just so happens that one of the developers best RPGs is currently completely free to download and keep!
Fallout 3: GOTY Edition is now free to claim and make yours forever via the Epic Games Store. This is the ultimate edition of the game, packed with fun DLC and substantial expansions that take the adventure far beyond that original, controversial ending. You can also mod the shit out of it until it doesn’t look anything like Fallout 3 anymore if you really want. You do you.

You will, of course, need a PC that can run Fallout 3 and an Epic account to claim this freebie. Fortunately neither are particularly difficult to come across these days.
If you’ve never experienced the Capital Wasteland in all its glory, you’re in for a treat. Fallout 3 is vast without ever becoming unfocused (unlike Fallout 4) and is filled with fascinating stories to explore. Whether you’re helping out a mutant tree and stumbling across a skeletal corpse with the remains of its penis in a fan, it’s a game guaranteed to make you think.
The soundtrack and atmosphere are also on point. Wandering through the nuked ruins of Washington while Billie Holiday croons to you from across time is truly goosebumps-inducing stuff.
Basically, do yourself a favour and go play Fallout 3 this weekend.
