At this point, The Elder Scrolls VI is becoming somewhat of a meme with fans waiting patiently for gameplay and even a release date but neither seems to be arriving anytime soon.
The Elder Scrolls VI was announced by Bethesda at E3 2018 with a cinematic trailer of a flyover view of Tamriel which ended with the game's title. Not much was shown in that cinematic trailer, but it was enough to excite fans.

However, the main issue with that 2018 reveal is that since then, Bethesda hasn't said much else let alone give us a gameplay trailer or release window. It’s now feared that the next entry in The Elder Scrolls series could be a next-gen title but at this point, it might as well be.

Thankfully, Bethesda head honcho Todd Howard has given us a new tease for The Elder Scrolls VI, well kind of. Look, we’re just taking what we can right now, so this will have to do.
In a clip shared on Reddit, Howard said that Bethesda has not “made an Elder Scrolls in a while” and that “someone should make a sequel to Skyrim” and “someone should get on that” in a joking manner.

We know this may be clutching at straws but there is a small chance that he might be hinting that work on The Elder Scrolls VI is already underway. It’s also said in the title of the Reddit post that The Elder Scrolls VI isn't a sequel to Skyrim but we all knew that already.
While each new mainline entry in the series carries a number, Skyrim isn't a direct sequel to Oblivion. Sure, it’s set in the same world as Oblivion but Skyrim takes place roughly 200 years later.
“The other games haven't generally been direct sequels either, so that's not a huge surprise,” said kidthorazine.
“Morrowind was NOT a sequel to Daggerfall. Oblivion was NOT a sequel to Morrowind. Skyrim was NOT a sequel to Oblivion,” exclaimed Snifflebeard.

When Bethesda decides to provide us with official information on The Elder Scrolls VI, we’ll be sure to update you right away but I wouldn't recommend holding your breath waiting for that to happen anytime soon.
