It’s almost time to dust off your armour and journey from the Lands Between to the Land of Shadow.

That’s right. Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion launches later this week, on 21 June to be exact.

Before then, a free update is coming to the base game, adding several new features that are well worth checking out.

We had the opportunity to go hands on with Shadow of the Erdtree, writing, “I'm delighted to report that after three hours with Elden Ring's upcoming Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion, Miyazaki and FromSoftware hate you more than ever. This is a brutal new adventure that builds on everything that made the base game great, and is absolutely filled with the very best kinds of rotten tricks.”

But let’s hop back to Elden Ring itself. If you’re currently taking on the base game (or preparing to), one player has made an incredible discovery that I assure you will make your life so much easier.

Take a look at Shadow of the Erdtree in action below.

It’s no secret that Malenia is one of the base game’s toughest boss battles, especially if you don’t have the assistance of the legendary Let Me Solo Her.

YouTuber It’s Always Snuny has found a handy trick though that should make tackling this formidable foe a tad easier.

Always relying on the Mimic Tear? You might want to set that aside to mimic, no pun intended, It’s Always Snuny’s build.

The YouTuber equipped two Scavenger’s Curved Swords, one with frost and one with fire, along with the Bloodhound Step skill.

Add in some darts, defensive talismans, and one more ingredient: Latenna.

It’s Always Snuny then recommends quite aggressively going in to attack Malenia, making sure that you remain pretty nimble to dodge her attacks.

After your initial few attacks, Latenna will spring into action and that’s, according to It’s Always Snuny, pretty much your job done.

The YouTuber recommends not looking at Malenia, just keep moving in the opposite direction dodging whilst Latenna lands her hits.

Dodging back and forth seems to be the best technique so you can keep Malenia in your line of sight.

If she does focus in on Latenna, use your darts. It’s that simple.

If you are curious and do turn around to look at Malenia, she’s far more likely to rush you as she gets hit by Latenna’s projectiles, hence the recommendation to look away.

Give it a go.
