Dead Island 2 got a shockingly squelchy trailer at gamescom Opening Night Live and has shown off its shiny new release date. Who would have thought?
Aside from everyone who had seen the leak. Well, it's still exciting. Several months after the infection claimed the lives of hundreds on the island of Banoi, the virus has somehow settled on American soil. Welcome to HELL-A. Yes, that's the new name for Los Angeles since it went to rack and ruin as its citizens experienced a sudden and voracious case of the munchies.
Feast your eyes on the trailer here! Really get in there. Every last crumb.
Hang on. There's a twist to the sequel as this time our heroes won't be the dictionary definition of the word. "Bitten, infected, but more than just immune, you learn to harness the tainted powers running through your veins. Only you, and the handful of other swaggering assholes who happen to be resistant to the pathogen, hold the future of Los Angeles (and humanity) in the balance," said developer Deep Silver. "As you uncover the truth behind the outbreak you'll uncover the truth of who - or what - you are."
There are six characters with their own unique personality and perspective on the apparent apocalypse, and the developer encourages players to go ham with the new skill system that allows for bananas builds. And as per, Dead Island 2 will see utterly visceral melee gameplay as well as a whole host of weapons to use to dispatch the undead. The enemies themselves will be victim to the "most advanced dismemberment system in games" so perhaps only play Dead Island 2 if you've got a stomach lined with steel. If you're made of flippier-floppier stuff, then the game does offer up to three player co-op so you can lean on a friend.
Dead Island 2 will come out on 3 February for PC via the Epic Games Store, Stadia, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series consoles.
