FromSoftware reportedly has a secret project in the works and while it may not be Dark Souls 4, it’s supposedly the next best thing.
It’s being reported that Dark Souls 3, the most beloved entry in the franchise, is set to receive a remaster.
I might have ruffled a few feathers with that statement as, it’s worth pointing out, it’s actually Dark Souls 2 that boasts the highest score on Metacritic.
And yet it has the lowest user score out of the three entries on the very same website.

The thing is that it’s all a matter of preference but it’s perhaps fair to say that Dark Souls 3 offers the most well-rounded experience, so I can see why FromSoft might be keen to revisit this nine-year-old gem.
The studio hasn’t actually let slip at all that anything is in the works; this tidbit comes from leaker Kurakasis who published a report to MP1ST.
You may recall that FromSoftware is working on a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title called The Duskbloods, a reveal which shocked us all earlier this year.
The Duskbloods essentially looks like Bloodborne 2 - aesthetically at least.

The hype dulled very slightly when it was revealed that it’s instead a PvPvE multiplayer title.
But according to Kurakasis, it’s not FromSoft’s only project in the works.
That’s something that shouldn’t surprise us at all. The company previously said that its studios had over 20 console games in the works.
Well, Kurakasis claims that one is this Dark Souls 3 remaster.

Codenamed FMC, the secret project is supposedly at “such an advanced stage that, unless it hits a delay, we should be able to play it no later than next year”.
As for why Kurakasis believes FMC is a Dark Souls 3 remaster, there’s a clue within those letters.
Elden Ring was codenamed GR, while Bloodborne was SPRJ, for example.
Dark Souls Remastered was FHD, Dark Souls 2 was FRPG2, and Dark Souls 3 was FDP.

You’re seeing all those ‘Fs’, right?
Project FMC is reportedly being tested and prepared for a multi-platform release, ruling out that it could just be The Duskbloods, leading Kurakasis to come to his conclusion that it’s instead a Dark Souls 3 remaster.
Armored Core games have also included Fs in their codenames, but Kurakasis is pretty confident that we’re not set to receive a new entry in that franchise any time soon.
I have to urge you to take all of this with a pinch of salt, but it all sounds incredibly compelling.

Of course, fans are already losing their minds.
“About time, but hopefully they make a proper one,” wrote Madsn41 on X/Twitter.
“Def needs it,” added waddleswillapon.
“If this is true then skipping DS2 is so f**king funny,” said yelsew_1337.
Naturally, the Bloodborne fans bemoaned that title's ongoing lack of follow-up, whilst other FromSoft fans argued that Dark Souls 3 still looks great.
Sigh, I guess we all better start preparing to take on Nameless King again.
