If you time-travelled back to December 2020 and told someone that gamers everywhere were actually looking forward to the release of Cyberpunk 2077’s DLC expansion, I’m pretty sure they’d have laughed in your face.
Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the messiest releases of all time, but things have changed - thanks to a number of big updates, things are in a much better place now than they were before, and many people now genuinely love the title. Recently, it even won an award for the ongoing support it's received from CD Projekt Red (although not everyone was happy about that).
Take a look at the trailer for Cyberpunk 2077’s expansion, Phantom Liberty, below.
The Phantom Liberty expansion has been described as a “spy-thriller” adventure, and will take place in a new district of Night City. It’s even been confirmed that Idris Elba will be starring in the DLC as the veteran New United States of America agent, Solomon Reed, alongside Twitch streamer Sasha Grey, who’ll be playing the radio DJ, Ash.

As reported by TheGamer, it sounds like the DLC is going to be absolutely huge. Speaking to the Polish news outlet Parkiet, Marek Bugdoł, who works in CD Projekt’s investor relations department, said that Phantom Liberty is set to be the studio’s biggest-budget expansion yet (that’s according to a translation by Google). When you consider that this is the same studio behind The Witcher 3 and its incredible Blood and Wine DLC, we must be in for a real treat.
“We hope that the new adventures and characters will attract those who are already familiar with Cyberpunk and also encourage many new players to start playing Night City,” Bugdoł said (translated by Google).
Phantom Liberty is currently set to release at some point in 2023, but we don’t know when in the year it'll be just yet. Fingers crossed that it'll stick the landing this time.
