The upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, Phantom Liberty will be a whole new adventure for V, in addition to a potential new love story.
Cyberpunk 2077’s developer, CD Projekt Red, has described the upcoming expansion as a “spy-thriller” that'll take V to an unfamiliar location, Dog Town, on a quest to save their life.
Accompanied by Keanu Reeve’s character Johnny Silverhand, the pair will encounter new characters and dangers, as they get wrapped up in a political plot that’ll urge players to pick a side, potentially changing the fate of Night City in the process.

The DLC will include gameplay additions that’ll completely overhaul the game, like being able to drive a vehicle and fire weapons at the same time, as well as expand V’s character and their romances.
The base-game included a variety of characters V could develop a relationship with, with a choice presented to the player in the game’s final missions as to who V would choose as their partner. With Phantom Liberty taking place after the main game’s story, many players are wondering if V’s chosen love-interest will be featured or alluded to during the events of the DLC.
Phantom Liberty quest designer Despoina Anetaki recently spoke about the DLC in an interview with Kotaku, comparing the continuation of V’s love-story to the Witcher 3’s Hearts of Stone expansion, which has been widely praised for having one of gaming’s greatest villains. Anetaki said: “V’s attention is in Dogtown because there is this whole thing about saving yourself through the storyline, but there will be some content like that … We have included some connections in places where it made sense between the main game and expansion, but I don’t wanna go into detail.”
Witcher 3’s Hearts of Stone expansion featured dialogue with whichever one of Geralt’s love interests was chosen during the events of the main game, so while they weren’t featured in the new story, it did feel like a true expansion, in the sense every decision you previously made had been carried over to the DLC. It seems Phantom Liberty will be taking a similar approach, likely utilsiing the game's phone call system so V’s partner can check up on them while they’re away in Dog Town.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been quite the comeback story since its rough launch in 2020. The release of the game was so disappointing it’s been added to the New York Museum of Failures, as a harsh reminder that rushed games are rarely good ones. Fortunately, though, post-launch support has been plentiful, and the Phantom Liberty DLC is being hailed as the thing that completed the title’s redemption story.
