I don’t know about you but when I first played Skyrim back in 2011, I thought that gaming could not get bigger or better.

Little did I know that my first experience with the Elder Scrolls series had nothing on the originals.

Will The Elder Scrolls VI feature an even bigger map if it ever releases?

First released way back in 2011, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim became an instant success thanks to its seemingly massive open-world, engaging gameplay and, of course, Bethesda’s standard glitches and bugs.

We all remember forcing our mounts to climb the game’s tallest mountains rather than have us walk around as Bethesda intended and as a result, the game’s map felt expansive.

However, if we look back, Skyrim’s map was not actually that big at all.

So much so that Cyberpunk 2077 publisher GOG is currently giving away a free RPG with a map that is over 100x bigger than Skyrim.

Daggerfall Unity, otherwise known as The Elder Scrolls II, is a “reimagined version of the all-time RPG classic from The Elder Scrolls series.”

This GOG cut aims to bring the experience to modern players and has been made possible thanks to a team of passionate creators working under the banner of Daggerfall Unity.

For those unaware, The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall was first released back in 1996 as the second instalment in the Elder Scrolls series.

The story follows the player as they are sent by the Emperor to free the ghost of King Lysandus from his ties to Earth as well as uncover the mysteries behind a letter sent from the Emperor to the former queen of Daggerfall.

These Elder Scrolls titles dominated the late 90s and early 00s despite the discussion mainly revolving around Oblivion, Skyrim and the upcoming The Elder Scrolls VI in recent years.

However, GOG is set to bring back some love for Daggerfall with this free release.

Not only that but The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall’s map is a sight to behold which is surprising considering it was released fifteen years before Skyrim.

So if you want more Elder Scrolls or just want to replay the classic entries, don’t miss out on this free download.
