What a turnaround it's been for Cyberpunk 2077. Following the release of Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion, so many of us have fallen head over heels for Night City.
In fact, many are declaring it to be one of their favourite video game locations of all-time. The player count has skyrocketed, and it’s on track to surpass that of Starfield. Players are thoroughly enjoying the new missions, albeit if one new survival horror segment does have them retreating to safety in the foetal position. Thankfully, we know that more Cyberpunk 2077 is on the way in the form of sequel, Project Orion. It’s likely quite a while off but fans think Phantom Liberty’s end scene contains a major plot tease. We also know that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is in the works. The franchise is well and truly thriving, and CD Projekt RED have just released the numbers to back this up.
Take a look at Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in action below.
CD Projekt RED has taken to social media to announce that Cyberpunk 2077 has sold a whopping 25 million copies to date. Remember that the game first released back in December 2020, meaning it achieved this milestone in just under three years. To compare, CDPR’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt reached the 25 million mark after four-and-a-half years with Cyberpunk 2077 clearly outpacing it.

Additionally, CDPR noted that the Phantom Liberty expansion has sold an impressive 3 million copies in the space of just over one week. To break this down, 68% of these copies were sold on PC, with 20% sold on PS5, and 13% sold on Xbox Series X/S.
Cyberpunk 2077 still has quite a way to go to outdo The Witcher 3’s lifetime sales. In May 2023, it was confirmed that The Witcher 3 had surpassed 50 million units in lifetime sales. With that in mind, Cyberpunk 2077 needs to double its current sales to match it, at the pace it's going though, that could most certainly be doable.
