Very few new IPs have made an impact quite like 2007’s BioShock from Irrational Games and to this day, fans still return to the tormented underwater utopia known as Rapture.
To say that the original BioShock is an all-time great would be a big understatement. Those who have played BioShock will never forget the first time they were introduced to Rapture, a place that was supposed to be a dream haven for those who resided but ended up being a living nightmare populated by hideous mutations at the hand of its creator, Andrew Ryan.
Check out the BioShock: The Collection trailer below!
“In 1960, a lone survivor of a plane crash named Jack discovers an abandoned underwater utopia, only to find out that the mystery behind its creation is much more sinister than he first believed,” reads the synopsis of the game.

Without giving too much away, BioShock also features one of the most iconic moments of storytelling in video game history. Like seriously, if you’ve not played the original BioShock and its two sequels, all three need to be added to your to-do list now.
It’s been a long time since we’ve been treated to a new game in this series with the last being 2013’s BioShock Infinite. Thankfully, there is not only BioShock 4 on the way but also a game that is considered to be a spiritual successor, Judas from the creator of the series, Ken Levine, the latter of which is expected in 2025.
Until BioShock 4 and Judas arrive, what better way than to pass the time than with the original game that started it all? Well, technically, System Shock is where it kinda began with it being BioShock’s inspiration but you get what I mean.
If you play BioShock on PC, you can take advantage of a fantastic free mod created by FCH823 called ‘BioShock Remastered - HD Texture Pack’ available to download now via Nexusmods.

As the name of the mod suggests, this HD texture pack is compatible with the officially remastered version of BioShock that was released in 2016 as part of BioShock: The Collection which was released on PC and consoles. Just by taking a look at the comparison screenshots on the dedicated Nexusmods page, the improvements are clear to see.
To be more exact, ‘BioShock Remastered - HD Texture Pack’ is only compatible with the PC version of the game but if you play this version, you can download the meaty 5GB file that overhauls the game with over 2,300 textures making this cult classic look better than ever.
This fan-made remaster will be an absolute joy to fans of the series because as much of a great game as the original is, the 2016 BioShock remaster, as well as its two sequels, wasn't the best remaster as it still contained some fairly low-res textures. Thankfully, FCH823 is doing the work of the gaming goods and gives us the BioShock remaster we should have gotten nearly a decade ago.
Now, would you kindly go and play BioShock on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch?
