Battlefield 6 is now playable as EA and DICE prepare to avoid the messy launch that was Battlefield 2042.
Alongside Call of Duty, the Battlefield series is one of the premier military first-person shooters—or at least it was. The first game in the series, Battlefield 1942, was released in 2002. It was a simple but very fun and popular FPS for its time.

Over the years, this series has produced plenty of bangers, including Battlefield 2, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and more. Some might argue that the last decent game in the series (once it got past its launch woes) was Battlefield 4 in 2013.

When Battlefield 2042 arrived in 2021, a lot was riding on this game to bring the popular military shooter series back to form. Sadly, as we all know, that was far from the case.
Battlefield 2024 launched in a buggy mess, with uninspired and barren large maps, missing basic features such as quality (practically non-existent) matchmaking, scores on the endgame matchboards, weapon customisation and much more. Oh, and its single-player campaign was ditched.
From what we hear, Battlefield 2042 is in a much better state now but for many fans of the series, those fixes came way too late. So, once again, a lot will be riding on Battlefield 6 to be the game that becomes DICE’s version of a phoenix rising from the ashes.
To prepare, in an exclusive report by Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, sources have informed him that Battlefield 6 is currently undergoing the biggest external playtest in the series’ history in the hope of ensuring that it doesn't face another “disastrous launch”.

It’s been claimed that when it concerns Battlefield 6, EA and DICE are taking the “player first” approach, which really should be a given but unfortunately, it seems that in-game purchases are often the focus strategy for modern AAA games.
The report also says that Battlefield 6 will scale things down to divert focus on a fun player experience rather than just making large maps for the sake of it, as seen in Battlefield 2042.
Battlefield 2042 has a maximum player count of 128, on paper that sounds great but if not regulated, it can result in utter chaos and not of the fun variety, especially with poor map design. Instead, it seems that Battlefield 6 will have 64-player battles, four classes and improved destruction.
While this all sounds great and believable, we should still take unconfirmed reports with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. I hope that Battlefield 6 is a return to form for the series but I won’t be counting my chickens before they hatch.
