Baldur’s Gate 3 took the world by storm this time last year but fans will be heartbroken to learn the truth about a potential sequel.
Baldur’s Gate 3 officially celebrated its one-year anniversary this weekend and it is hard to believe that this time last year we were getting stuck into one of the greatest RPGs of all time.

Developed by Larian Studios, the game went on to win Game of the Year for 2023 and was praised for its fleshed out characters, epic combat and sheer creativity.

Which is why there is no surprise that its fans are calling out for news of Baldur’s Gate 4.
However, with Larian Studios revealing that it would not be working on a further instalment and has instead turned its attention to a brand new IP, it is a sad time to say the least.
Now there is even more bad news as, courtesy of a recent interview between Larian CEO Swen Vincke and PC Gamer, the studio had once begun development on Baldur’s Gate 4.
The studio reportedly had a “partially playable” BG4 but decided it did not want to focus all its attention on that title for the foreseeable future.

"So if something is super successful, obviously everyone's [asking] you, 'When are you going to make the next one?'", Vincke said.
"And when you, as a developer, come out of this little miserable cave that you've been sitting in for many, many hours as you're finishing your thing, you're vulnerable.
You tend to be prone to do the obvious thing, which was really just make an add-on, or a standalone add-on, or start working on a sequel, because it's the easiest route to take."
Ultimately, Vincke decided that a sequel wasn’t right for Larian as it would be “doing the same thing”.

Although the news is heartbreaking for fans out there, it was the right decision for the studio and we continue to be excited for its next IP.
