There are a whole host of survival games to play on Steam, all vying for your attention, but the one I want to highlight for you today, pulls inspiration from some popular franchises.
Nightingale is a combining of different inspirations and aesthetics, from across gaming, and there’s a free demo on Steam right now.
Nightingale is available in early access on Steam now
Perhaps the biggest attraction for Nightingale is its steampunk design, that pulls from a “Gaslamp Fantasy” universe of Victorian-style clothing and imaginative machinery.

I’ve only ever put a few hours in Nightingale, mostly because I always get distracted by so many other games, but what I played was a lot of fun.
The survival aspects of harvesting materials, then crafting key items such as weapons, is something you’d see in a game like Valheim, or even Minecraft.
You’ll find a menagerie of creatures out for our blood, and all those lovely materials, scattered across realms which are opened using a card system.
The cards you place inside a machine that creates a portal to these realms, dictates what will be found when exploring.

The realm cards construct each area randomly, so adventures are, essentially, endless.
It’s a nice system that breaks down environments into smaller chunks, perfect for the solo PvE play.
You can play in co-op, if you’ve got a few friends to bring along, and each of them can contribute to the base you’ll inevitably build.
The biggest standout for Nightingale is the style, which pulls from English history, much like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

You’ll find plenty of wonderful outfit choices and accessories for your dapper explorer.
The latest update to Nightingale has revamped the realms, bringing “ancient Crossways portals, venturing into corrupted forests, gravity-defying deserts, and more.”
There is also expanded base-building, new boss fights, and some fresh spells to sling about.
If you enjoy the demo, it’s well worth buying the game soon, as it’s currently 40% off.
