With Assassin’s Creed Mirage finally out in the world, players are getting stuck into Basim’s story in 9th century Baghdad. However, one player has a few tricks to make the game even more immersive.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the latest instalment in Ubisoft’s stealth-action series Assassin’s Creed and tells the coming-of-age story of Basim, a street thief operating in 9th century Baghdad. Despite the game only being out for 24-hours, it is already being called a “return back to the roots” of the series with the emphasis put firmly back on the stealth and parkour aspects.

One fan taking to the r/assassinscreed sub-Reddit has found a way to drastically improve the game which requires playing about with a few settings. “I bought the game on a whim since I've been excited about a return to the roots, and wanted to form an opinion for myself” they wrote. “I understand why some people are critical, but holy hell I am really loving it! I'm playing in Arabic with nearly the entire HUD removed, including some things you might think are essential like contextual actions and the aiming reticle. I'm even trying to see if it's possible to play (without too much trouble) without the world markers (like objective).”

Yes, that’s right. They are playing Assassin’s Creed Mirage with the cleanest HUD possible in an attempt to truly immerse themselves in the gameplay. “With a completely clean screen, the game is so immersive. Especially with all the NPC chatter in Arabic, it's incredible just walking the streets,” they claim. They urge other players to do the same and include the settings you will need to tweak to do so.
The author claims you should remove the compass, control reminders, health and stamina bars, enemy indicators/health, target lock and enemy proximity. “If you're a mad lad like me, you can turn off contextual actions, aiming reticle, and world markers”, they add. If you want to try this for yourself, the only HUD elements you will need enabled are celebrations, loot, tips and messages and Codex updates.
Our very own Sam Cawley called Assassin’s Creed Mirage “a leap of faith that sticks the landing” in his review. “For all of you who fell out of love with the Assassin’s Creed series during the RPG games, I'd urge you to take a leap of faith with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, I don't think you'll be disappointed.”
