With the open-world stealth franchise taking us everywhere from 15th century Italy to 18th century Colonial America, Assassin’s Creed continues to wave the flag for virtual historical retellings. Now thanks to one fan, we can imagine what the series would look like in Ancient Rome.

Another day, another fan-made Assassin’s Creed trailer and this one titled ‘Assassin’s Creed Legion’ takes place in Ancient Rome during the last years of the reign of Marcus Aurelius. In this world, created by Maxim Prikhodchenko, you will play as either Cassius or Lucia, the descendants of the assassins featured in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Take a peek at the world of Assassin's Creed Mirage below!

The trailer begins with our first look at the Colosseum with words from Marcus Aurelius echoing in the background alongside a rendition of Ezio’s Family. We see various looks of the Roman army and soldiers as his speech continues before we get our first glimpse at Assassin’s Creed Origins’ Bayek and Aya. Joined by the rest of the Hidden Ones, they race across moonlight rooftops before eavesdropping and entering a Roman temple. The trailer ends with our unnamed protagonist killing Caesar whilst Aya says “Freedom is not given, Caesar. It is taken”.

As fan-made trailers go, it is a pretty good one and if Ubisoft ever centers an Assassin’s Creed instalment in Ancient Rome, it could definitely get some pointers. However, the studio is currently busy with the next instalments including Assassin’s Creed Mirage which will launch on 5 October. It will be followed by Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, Codename Jade, Nexus VR, Infinity, Invictus and Assassin’s Creed Hexe to name just a few.

As mentioned, first up will be Mirage which arrives later this week for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. It will follow assassin Basim who operates in 9th century Baghdad, a setting so accurate that it recently made a historian cry.
