The Assassin’s Creed property is one of Ubisoft’s most connected universes not only spanning video games, but comics, novels, a movie and more.
Though perhaps the less said about that one movie the better. However, in terms of comics and novels, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series has knocked it out of the park. Whichever comic or novel you read, it can give the reader more context on their favourite characters whether it be a prologue or epilogue story.

In particular, I’m a big fan of the Oliver Bowden novels and one novel that instantly comes to mind is Assassin’s Creed: The Secret Crusade which offers more story to legendary assassin Altaïr and added context to the part he played in the war against the Templars. Seriously, if you’ve not read that book yet, it’s super cheap on Amazon.

Another novel that comes to mind is Assassin’s Creed: Desert Oath, which stars the hero of the 2017 game Bayek, in Assassin’s Creed Origins. Offering as a prequel to Origins, set in the year 70BC, Bayek embarks on a mission to assassinate Medjay, a protector of the pharaoh, and one of the last members of the ancient order.
“In peaceful Siwa, the town's protector abruptly departs, leaving his teenage son, Bayek, with questions about his own future and a sense of purpose he knows he must fulfil,” reads the Desert Oath synopsis. “Bayek sets off in search of answers, his journey taking him along the Nile and through Egypt in turmoil, facing the dangers and the mysteries of the Medjay's path.”
As a reader of Assassin’s Creed: Desert Oath, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. If you shop about and manage to grab a second-hand copy on Amazon, it’s also a super cheap purchase, at least at the time of writing.
In related news, fans of the original 2007 Assassin’s Creed have been looking back at the game fondly and have described it as an ‘unforgettable experience’.
