Ahsoka Season 2 Gets Disney+ Confirmation, Crazy Time Gap

Fans are confused, and I don't have a good explanation for you

Official info from the team behind the second season of Disney’s upcoming Star Wars series Ahsoka has upset a seemingly large percentage of the fanbase, due to the now confirmed gap between the first and second seasons of the show.

Since purchasing the rights way back in 2012, Disney has been (somewhat fairly) criticised by fans for their mismanagement of the Star Wars franchise.

Obviously their mishandling of the Sequel Trilogy films probably doesn’t need further explanation at this point, as I’m pretty sure fans are sick of hearing about Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker by now, but their missteps regarding their live-action Disney+ content is still a hot topic among the fanbase.

Season three of The Mandalorian was heavily criticised for its poor quality, the miniseries Kenobi was deemed as wasted potential by the fanbase (and to some degree, even by Ewan McGregor himself), and it’s probably best we don’t even talk about the financial failure and subsequent cancellation of The Acolyte (lest we upset either side of its rabid fanbase).

However, one bright spot in between all of this has been Ahsoka. Officially announced back in December 2020 (following Rosario Dawson's cameo in the second season of The Mandalorian), Ahsoka premiered on Disney+ in August 2023 after a six-month-long shoot.

Reception and viewer numbers were both relatively strong, which of course meant that Disney greenlit a second season of the series… which is where we find ourselves today, with a fresh new grievance.

As detailed in an article by Forbes’ Paul Tassi, the team behind Ahsoka has just revealed that filming on the second season has wrapped. As Tassi theorises in his article, based on the post-production timeline of the first season, this likely means that we won’t be seeing the second season until September 2026.

Over on Star Wars Holocron’s Twitter post covering the news, fans are noticeably upset about the potentially three-year-long gap between the release of seasons one and two, with many confused as to why production has taken so long.

The large gap more than likely has something to do with the production of The Mandalorian and Grogu, set to premiere in May 2026, but fans don’t seem best pleased with said justification.

On the plus side, if you’re really that keen to get more Ahsoka content in your life, there’s always a good chance she’ll cameo in the upcoming film.
