You may remember that earlier this year, we covered one very wholesome senior gamer’s rise to YouTube and TikTok fame. Chatty Grandpa (whose real name is Trippe) was once a rock band guitarist and a farmer, but now he makes relaxing YouTube videos and streams, mainly documenting his adventures in Minecraft.
At the time of writing, Chatty Grandpa has nearly 40 thousand subscribers on YouTube, and almost a million total views on his channel, and he’s not showing any signs of stopping. In one recent video, he celebrated his 71st birthday with his fans, and marked the occasion in the perfect way, in Minecraft.
Take a look at Chatty Grandpa making his first nether portal below.
In celebration of his big day, the YouTuber carefully created a big “71” out of Cobblestone, which now sits proudly out in the open of his world. “Hate to [recognise] another year but it is better than the alternative,” he wrote in the YouTube comments. “(It's my birthday and I'll cry if I want to!)”
Naturally, his fans flooded the comments with super sweet birthday wishes: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRAMPA! HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY AND A GREAT YEAR AHEAD. Looking forward to many more fun videos with you,” OutlawHydra wrote. “HAPPY BIRTHDAYY!!! I wish you an amazing birthday grandpa and I hope [it’s] filled with lots of love and joy! Great videos as always,” said Krono Redbone.

Earlier this year, Audrey Buchanan, better known as the Animal Crossing grandma, celebrated her 90th birthday with a bunch of adorable Animal Crossing themed gifts from her grandson. She first rose to fame all the way back in 2019 when her grandson shared a picture of her 3DS activity log, which showed that she had thousands of hours logged in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Unsurprisingly, she also loved New Horizons when that released in 2020, and, as far as we know, she’s still playing it, which is amazing. You just love to see it.
