It’s another day which means it’s another round of GTA VI speculation as fans eagerly await an official update from developer Rockstar Games.
At this point, it would be fair if you’ve become numb to the seemingly endless streams of rumours related to the next entry in the ever-popular Grand Theft Auto series. Ever since Rockstar Games acknowledged that GTA VI was in development in 2022, we’ve had no further substantial update.

Fans have humorously raised concerns that they might die before GTA VI is released. More recently rumours were making the rounds that the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI will drop by the end of this month. At the time of writing, we have one more full day until October comes to an end. So unless something drastic happens between now and 31 October 2023, that particular rumour is very unlikely to come to fruition.

Fans of the series are continually being greeted with the feeling of disappointment begging the question ‘When is Grand Theft Auto VI coming out?’. Unfortunately at this time, no one other than Rockstar Games or its parent company Take-Two Interactive knows for sure. That being said, the latest leak has left some fans stunned by the level of potential realism of GTA VI.
The latest rumour was shared by Reddit user Tobbelobben30, who claims to have discovered a patent related to in-game character animations of Grand Theft Auto VI. The Reddit user checked out a LinkedIn profile of Tobias Kleanthous who had previously been employed by Rockstar Games between 2014 to 2021 working on AI, animation and gameplay.
“Based on this patent, it seems like they're using a clever system. They've built a library of small building blocks for character movements. These blocks can be combined in various ways to create a wide range of animations,” explained Tobbelobben30. “For instance, think about a character in the game walking in the rain, feeling tired, or getting injured. Instead of designing separate animations for each of these situations, they use these building blocks to put together the character's movements naturally.

The Reddit user continued: “This means GTA VI can have more diverse and lifelike animations. So, when you play GTA VI, you'll see characters moving in ways that match the weather, their energy level, and their injuries. This makes the game feel more immersive. It's like having characters that can adapt to different situations, making the world feel more real and thrilling.”
Commenting on the thread, Tobbelobben30 adds: “From what we've seen in the leaks, the movement and animations will truly be revolutionary, and the game isn't even finished. Glad to see the NPCs becoming more dynamic too. Better car destruction would be amazing.”
Of course, these rumours are unconfirmed, so we should take them with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. At this time, GTA VI does not have a release date, but it is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S sometime between 2024 and 2025.
