LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

This is pure popcorn enjoyable. You don’t have to take anything seriously, you can wobble along with your little LEGO Star Wars characters, bash some enemies, and work your way through the levels. Of course, this will appeal to Star Wars fans, but even if you’re not a ride-or-die fan, you’ll enjoy the simple platforming and the exploration. Whether you’re searching out collectibles, or simply revelling in all the pop culture nods, you’ll have a blast with the hundreds of characters available.

Crisis Core - Final Fantasy VII - Reunion

For a cracking RPG, with plenty of lore and a dash of melodrama, you’ve got to check this out. It’s the perfect jumping-on point for those new to the Final Fantasy franchise or even Cloud’s adventures. Suppose you plan on playing the recent entries in the Final Fantasy VII remake project. In that case, this will flesh out certain characters and some important moments from their past, and it’s all wrapped up in a great experience, with tense battles and gorgeous visuals.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous

More RPG goodness comes in the form of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, based on the popular tabletop game. If you’re thinking along the lines of Dungeons and Dragons, you’re in the right ballpark. It’s a traditional story of good versus evil, filled with engaging characters and chaotic battles. There can be a lot to learn which is great if you want something to sink hours into. If you were impressed by Baldur’s Gate 3, this will carry on that tone and deliver bags of fun.

Remnant II

This action game can be played solo or in co-op with friends and it’s worth picking your way through to the end. Superb combat balances gunplay and melee abilities and weaponry, and it’s all shaded with a little Soulslike flair. The boss battles are epic when you find yourself facing off against hulking creatures from the bowels of hell. A branching storyline accompanies all this carnage and is surprisingly enjoyable from scene to scene.

Monster Hunter Rise

There’s a reason the Monster Hunter series is so popular. The engaging gameplay loop of hunting monsters and using parts of their carcass to create weapons and armour will keep you exploring and striving to take down bigger foes. There’s a loose story threaded through, but what players want is epic weapons and gruelling fights that take skill and tactics to get through. There’s nothing more satisfying than finally getting the last part you need for some killer armour to then head out into more dangerous grounds.

Dredge

This Lovecraftian tale takes you out on the waves in a brooding sailing adventure dripping with horror. You’re a fishing boat captain in an area of the world where the oceans are populated with weird and sometimes grotesque fish. There’s a sinister mystery simmering away in the background and you’ll slowly puzzle it out while catching your haul. With some real horror undertones, this is a great tale with a very engaging loop of fishing, crafting, and some light puzzle elements.

The Outer Worlds

There’s no denying the Fallout flavour of The Outer Worlds. It comes from Obsidian who are responsible for one of the best Fallout games ever made, so it’s no surprise. However, this is a sci-fi RPG that reaches out into space and takes you across the stars to meet a variety of characters and guide the story as you see fit. With lots of humour and plenty of great opportunities to fight or talk your way through situations, you’ll have a blast if you don’t take things too seriously.

No More Heroes III

For a ridiculous romp that will make you laugh at its preposterous storyline, get on this. It’s wild, silly, and sometimes a bit rude. An Otaku assassin trying to save the world forcing you to play through delightful minigames, with pop culture-inspired moments, it’s a hack-and-slash action game that will keep you on your toes. Yes, it’s the third part of a story, but you can always read up on the first two, despite the story being quite loose at this point.
