Hogwarts Legacy is a big game, so if you missed anything while playing, we wouldn’t be surprised. Capturing the Harry Potter universe allowed for the developers to fill the game with little details in quests, but also out in the open world. Among all the characters to meet, spells to learn, places to visit, you’re bound to wander past something awesome.
It can be easy to get caught up in questlines and seeing the points of interest from the books and films that you desperately want to explore. While this makes up a large part of the enjoyment in a game like this, missing those small details can be a shame, which is why we’re rounding up some of the best bits here.
A hidden secret in the library
Advert
As you move through Hogwarts you’ll find plenty of chests and items, but there’s one hidden away in the library that many students overlook. To access this, in a secret room, simply cast Glacius on at the fire burning in the fireplace and it will be extinguished. This leaves you to creep in and find some goodies. We won’t spoil what’s inside the chest, though.
What’s cooking?
Another hidden area, because Hogwarts is full of them, is the kitchen, where all the yummy food found in the Great Hall is prepared. Most players won’t ever find this room because there’s not much reason to track it down, other than a bit of loot kicking around in there. It’s not as hard to find as you might think either, though isn’t entirely obvious either. Near the Hufflepuff common room is a painting of fruit and if you ‘tickle the pear’ it’ll reveal an entrance to the kitchen. Pretty neat.
Dance the night away
Advert
One last hidden location for you to seek out can be found near the Slytherin Dungeon. It takes some time to travel there, but it gives players a lovely little look at what the ghosts of Hogwarts get up to when they’re not wandering the halls. If you’d like to visit, head to the Staircase Entrance and take a right down the narrow stairs towards the dungeon. Follow the path to the left and you’ll find a level one Alohomora gate to open. Once unlocked, follow it in to find the Hogwarts ghosts chatting and dancing in their own room.
Your house changes the game
You may not know this, especially if you’re new to the game, but the house you end up in - Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw - will alter what you see in the game in some instances. For example, after you complete the quest Trials of Merlin, you’ll get a house-exclusive quest to complete. This is on top of the individual common rooms, floo fast travel points, and clothing you can wear which are a bit more obvious.
Where the fat lady hides
Advert
If you want a little easter egg from the Harry Potter films (though Hogwarts Legacy is based mostly on the books) you can find one behind a map in the south wing of Hogwarts. It’s pretty easy to spot and once you’re there you’ll need to cast Depulso to reveal the hidden room. Inside you’ll find a very familiar painting of giraffes and a hippo which was used in the third film, Prisoner of Azkaban, where the fat lady was found to be hiding.
The clock tower
You’ll find yourself in the clock tower during the main story and do battle with other students, but many overlook that the tower itself is a puzzle to be solved. It all links to the swinging pendulum which can be frozen with spells. If you freeze it to match the symbols on the ground it will be possible to climb the tower and discover a bunch of chests on the way to the top.
Well, well, well
Advert
That’s the name of the quest. Well, well, well. You might miss it because, honestly, it’s a bit out of the way. You’ll need to explore the wilderness near Aranshire hamlet where you’ll discover a magical, talking well. After having a bit of a chat, the well will spit out a clue to some treasure. The only problem is, that the map is very vague. So, go and pick up the quest, then head to a tree southwest of Irondale, near a magic hotspot. Hey presto, some loot for you.
Secret potion
If you remember back to the second book, The Chamber of Secrets, you’ll be familiar with the Polyjuice potion that Hermione cooks up. This had to be done in secret and you’ll find, in one of the bathrooms, that a student has been cooking up the potion away from prying eyes. Clearly a nod to a great moment from Harry Potter history. It can be found in the witch's bathroom near Professor Fig’s office if you want to see it for yourself.
